Frequently asked questions

Is the app free?

Yes. The app is free, with no ads and no in-app purchases.

Is it available in English?

Yes. The app is in English, Czech, Ukrainian and Vietnamese. By default it follows your phone's language and you can switch it in Contacts.

Does it work offline?

Yes. The list of shelters and all guides are right on your phone. The background map needs internet, but you can download your region's map in advance and then see it without signal.

Is it a government app?

No. Kam se ukrýt is not run by the Czech state, the Fire Rescue Service (HZS ČR) or Prague City Hall. The shelter data comes from their public maps. In a real emergency, always follow the instructions of the emergency services.

Does the app collect my data?

No. It has no accounts and no analytics. Your location is used only on your phone to work out the distance to shelters and is never sent anywhere.

Which places does it cover?

All of Czechia. It includes every shelter in the HZS ČR register, and in Prague also the metro protection system and the Strahov tunnel.

Are the shelters open?

No, permanent shelters are not normally open. They are opened on the authorities' order. In a sudden alarm, go into the nearest brick or concrete building or a cellar.
