Floods

Follow the flood alert levels

A flood usually comes with some warning. If you know what each level means, you have time to prepare.

Three flood alert levels

Level 1Alert. Follow the news and the weather.
Level 2Readiness. Get ready for a possible evacuation.
Level 3Danger. Follow the instructions of the flood authority.

The levels are declared by municipal flood authorities. You will find information from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ), on the radio and on your municipality's website.

What to do

  1. At level 2, get ready Move valuables and electronics higher up, put documents and medicines with your emergency bag, park the car on higher ground.
  2. Before you leave, turn off gas, electricity and water Lock up and take your emergency bag.
  3. Do not walk into flowing water Just 15 cm of flowing water can knock you over, 30 cm can carry away a car. Do not drive through flooded roads.
  4. Be careful after a flood Do not drink tap or well water until the health authority approves it. Throw away food that has been in the water. Have the electrics checked.

Water rising and you can't get out? Go to a higher floor or the attic and call 112.
